e550 winter tire

Hi, picked up a 2016 e550 cab a week ago, and wanted to drive in the winter dealer wanted 5k for a winter tire set no way I was paying that.
the car came with 235/40r18 in front and 255/35r18 in the rear
now should I just put winter tire on current rims ? or I found a winter tire and rims online 225/45r 17 all around are they gonna work well if I put them since they came off a 2014 cab, don't know much about how different tires work so. which would one be better? winter tire on current rims or the winter tire and rims mention above?
thanks

here is my convertible on 17 inch wheels ( cla amg wheels lookalike )
the wheels are keskin kt15 17 inch , et 38
and the rubbers are pirreli 235/45 R17
in my opinion lower inch wheels for winter with big rubber on it
i think it looks awesome and it s much more confortable

i have the amg ones for summer on 18 inch

There is no 17" option on Tire Rack. I would imagine you are correct. I'd switch to 17's with a higher profile tire in a minute.

Maybe I'm getting older, but the smaller rims look great.

so i called the dealership today and nop 17" rims won't fit on a 550 it's not going to clear the front brake so maybe they changed it in 2015 to a smaller one and changed it again in 2016. now iI'm stuck with the choice of buying just the tires are swap them every winter or buying new rims as well

Ha- Romanian potholes have nothing over Southern New England and New York potholes. My E550 hates them. Haven't popped a tire yet, but I try to be really careful. Can't wait until spring when the top comes down!

Keep in mind that winter rims will require new tire pressure sensors and they will need to be programmed.
