Car at dealer today for what I thought would be an hour or so for software update. Called dealer and they said 6 hours connected and update is still running. Further said it was updating all of the modules. (not just the PCM to solve the Apple Carplay issues. (Car was Dec 17 production) Does anyone else have this experience??

I have not, though I have been meaning to bring my couple in for an update since COMAND loads extremely slowly at startup.

Some systems take a very long time to update, yes.

Hi, I just bought a new E400 coupe a couple of months ago and I was wondering how you know that you car needs an update for the sofware of the maps? does the tell you in a message like the service messages?

Unless something has changed between my 2016 and your 2018, the car will not notify you that a map update is available; you have to check with the dealer periodically.
