Small amount of oil in water

Hey peoples I’ve got a 2010 e500 coupe and I’m not going to lie I drive it hard now for a few month the car was leaking water from somewhere I couldn’t tell you where as I tryed finding the leak but without a pressure tester it makes it hard then all of a sudden the leak stopped and car went back to normal for a month or so then come back and this repeated on and off now I check the water and seems to be a small amount of oil in the water car isn’t or never has gotten hot now before I take it somewhere and there try bend me over for unnecessary repairs it’s there anything common that could cause this

Yea, the leak is from a faulty gasket. The oil in the water could be, could be the start of a head gasket issue. If you can't afford a mechanic now----not to worry you will bend yourself over for a couple of grand to fix your cream puff!

Fair call

but if that was the case why is water not getting into the motor
and forget fixing head gasket cheaper to buy 6.3litre and add a pro-charger
only asking because I read a few comments on how the trans oil get into the radiator but no one confirmed it and there no water in the oil or when you run car with cap off there’s no mass amounts of air in the water if the gasket was from water jacket to cyl

Do you see white smoke coming out or the exhaust? If you do, then you have a leaky head gasket and the white smoke is the water steam.

I think my coolant and tea fluids mixed they had this drama in pre 03 models fingers crossed I can save but doing fluid change and adding separate trans cooler

Are there any symptoms such as misfiring, loss of power, uneven running, overheating, coolant loss?

Run a compression test to see about the health of the engine. If all the cylinders are up to pressure, your coolant loss is something else.

There is a sniffer tool that can detect combustion gasses in the water. You can also try that.

The cooling hoses use an o-ring joint that uses grease to help protect the oring seal. This grease could give you a false oil sheen if it was over-applied.

Assuming a head gasket failure is the last thing you do until all the tests are run.

what is the oil quantity? thin film or thickening and creaming of the water? it can go one way only due to pressure differentials depending where the leak is.
