E350 Cabriolet relay question

Recently purchased 2011 E350 Cabriolet. Convertible top operation was finicky. Usually had to fuss with trunk partition to get top to go down. Now top will not open at all.

o Windows open and deck comes up partially then stops.
o Hydraulic fluid is at correct level.
o Have tried disconnecting battery with no results.

Can anyone tell me where the convertible top relay is located? Can't seem to find this information anywhere.

Thanks for any help

Wow! Thanks a bunch. Took out trunk partition switch and checked with voltmeter. Got .3 ohms when pressed. Re-installed and wired shut. Top still won't open. Now have disconnected battery hoping for miracle. Any other thoughts?

Hello dddeane, welcome to the forum!

Let's hope that this is as easy as the trunk partition switch having intermittently signaled "open", which would have made the top stop half way, and that disconnecting the battery for several hours will clear enough error codes in the soft top controller. The soft top controller has capacitors that enable it to retain fault codes for a few hours. Latent fault codes can be erased by either disconnecting the negative battery pole over night, or by disconnecting the negative battery wire and shorting it to positive (the disconnected negative wire, not the battery poles!).

The root cause may very well be missing spring action from the gas struts that keep the partition pushed against the partition switch. This is a very common fault in the A209 CLK-Class, and I assume that Mercedes has adopted the same design in the A207 E-Class, as the rest of the convertible top system is almost identical to the CLK-Class.

Thanks for your response. I took the connector off the trunk partition switch, then put a jumper between the two wires coming into the connector. Same results -- windows open, trunk deck comes up a couple inches and that's it. Unless I am missing something putting the jumper in place of the switch would eliminate the trunk partition switch as the culprit. It just seemed the most likely candidate. Not sure where to go from here except a very long trip to nearest Mercedes dealer.

Any other thoughts are always welcome.

For how long did you disconnect the battery? Also, swap the two relays in the wiring harness next to the pump. If you get the same results after swapping relays, then you can rule out burnt contacts on one of them.

Thanks for the reply. Think I left battery disconnected overnight, but will try again. Getting to the hydraulic pump seems to involve solving jigsaw puzzle of removing trunk lining. Nothing there is made easy to get at.

I know it's been a while, but can you please provide an update on what the problem was and what you did to fix it? I have identical symptoms to what you described, same model and year.

I assume it was not the trunk partitioner switch, because the display would say "trunk partitioner open" if that were the case.

Hi Unk, did you get a response or an answer? I’m getting the Trunk Partition Open on my 207. But it’s closed. I recently replaced the tonneau pistons. Hope I didn’t disconnect anything else.
