10.25" Android for 2011 E350 Cabrio

Hey folks, new to MBWorld...

I've been thinking about getting the 10.25" Android replacement screen, but have read a lot of conflicting things online and wanted to throw my questions to the masses.
  1. Has anybody done the installation, and then had regrets due to quality (glitches, over heating, sound or screen quality, fit, etc.)
  2. Has anybody had especially good luck, and willing to share with me the site you purchased from.
  3. I was told by www.4x4shop.ca that the latest and greatest version of the 10.25" Android is 6.0, yet folks online are selling 7.1. 4x4shop.ca said the 7.X's and 8.0's are fakes... Is this true? I need MPH and Deg F, and I know the earlier versions did not have these options.
  4. I'll be installing on a 2011 E350 Cabrio (A207) with the NTG4 (I think) COMAND... I also want to be able to hook to AppleCarPlay. What other hardware will I need.
I'm open to any other opinions, not solicited above, that will help me find a solution.

Thanks for the assist!

Doesn't work on all A207 Comand configurations. Also means everything has to be driven from the phone where most can be driven from the HU with the Android unit.

1. Installed one and happy with it. One work around I am fixing in mine is that the supplied GPS receiver isn't the best and unless you stick it to the screen can sometimes be a pain. I have bought a splitter cable to take the OEM GPS reading, but not fitted it yet. Having the ability to insert a sim card (work in Europe) and then be able to use Waze etc natively on the HU is great. You can also download all the content you want to it. I did Mirrorlink my phone for a while, but to be honest its better just to do everything on the HU. Carplay has been even more of a hit and miss for people so if you want that to be guarnteed rock stable then this may not be the solution for you. What do you want to use Carplay for that can't be done natively on the HU?
2. Bought mine from Chris as I was one of the earlier adopters, there is more than enough support around not that you could really get it from anywhere.
3. The tried and tested ones are Android 6, but the build prop has been modified to say 7 so that there are more apps compatible with it. Ones on Android 8 tend to not have the same OEM integration. You want what is known as a V2 unit. These tend to be 2/32Gb or 4/64Gb versions and will mostly claim to be Android 7 (but as stated really 6). The earlier 1/16Gb Android 6 versions should be avoided as not really powerful enough. V2's do the settings you are after.
4. You will need a USB Carplay Dongle, Look in the threads in the W212 section for examples of which ones people have bought. Personally I would run everything natively on the head unit that you can. Tethering via wifi for internet if you cant use a sim in the HU.

It doesn't look too bad. I live in Burlingame and was going to install mine in the next month or so.

Personally, I think the 10.25" is too big for the A207/C207 dash. I prefer the proportions of the stock dash and it's a major reason I'm avoiding the 2017 - 2019s. I really am surprised by how many car manufacturers are following Tesla with these large flat screens, but that's another topic...

I will say, the Android screens give you the touchscreen experience that a smartbox retrofit doesn't. Then again, with my short arms, the scroll wheel works just fine and the beauty of our dash is unchanged. My smartbox offers a wireless wifi connection as well as BT, but I use the cable to keep the phone charged. I may add a Qi charging pad, but I think the only place it would fit is inside the center console cubby, which find a bit cumbersome.
