2010 E500 (W207) No start, no ignition lights but new battery
Hi All,
My 2010 E500 literally stopped working on Sunday. Had it for nearly 2 years, not a single problem. I'd driven it to a shopping centre car park and when I returned, got inside and pushed the button (it has Keyless Go) nothing happened. The doors had unlocked normally but when I pressed the start button with my foot on the brake, the usual steering unlock sound didn't happen, there were no dash lights at all (but the odometer reading and OAT number were showing) and it didn't turn over. I pulled out the Start button and put the key directly into the slot. Nothing. It turns all the way to the right, but no lights turn on and the car is dead.
The key fob has a new battery and the spare key didn't change anything - same no power, no start situation.
The roadside assistance people came and assumed it was a flat battery - they used their jumper leads and nothing, which didn't surprise me as the battery had been replaced 3 months ago.
Getting it towed was a nightmare as the truck couldn't enter the car park because of height restrictions but after flipping the gear release tab and getting it into neutral (and the steering wheel was strangely not locked) we rolled it out into the open.
MB Canberra have had it for 3 days now and as others have noted their service is total s****. They keep telling me they are looking into it and promise to call me back but don't. Luckily I do have a Premium Plus MB Certified Warranty.
I am at a loss to guess what might be wrong - does anyone out there have any ideas what might be causing this - I can only assume it's a computer module somewhere or could it be as simple as a fuse?
I am a bit worried...
Cheers,
Ben

212 if within VIN range A909083 to A920630 both keys may need replacement see attached bulletin 057752, and 212 & 207 KG control unit may need software update 049924.

I did. It was the ESL (Electronic Steering Lock). Luckily it hadn't locked and seized so it was easy to unplug it and slot in a new one - cost $900AUD but has been perfect ever since. A common failure point I was told by the Mercedes service people.
