I recently purchased a 2010 E550 Coupe and I am looking forward to learning more information about my vehicle and Mercedes-Benz in general.
Once I get my "feet under me" with regards to my general knowledge on these cars, hopefully I will become a worthwhile contributor to this forum. I am certainly preparing a list of questions for my vehicle that I will be searching for answers to prior to posting.
This isn't the best pic (only had the car for roughly a day and took this pic while waiting to complete the paperwork) but here is what I am working with. I want to change the wheels out to the "10 spoke star" factory wheels (no idea what they are officially called but I like the way they look better). Also I'd like to change the steering wheel and gear shifter to the woodgrain ones. We'll see how everything shakes out in the upcoming year or so. I am loving the car so far and this is my first rear wheel drive V8 car in a very long time. Also looking forward to getting my hands dirty with maintenance and repairs as they come up. Only real issue I want to resolve right away is it looks like the shade for the panoramic roof is stuck and I hear the motor running when I press the button, but no movement. I didn't test it before I bought it because it was freezing out where I bought it and that cold air was downright disrespectful lol. Hopefully it's something that's easy to repair.
Otherwise, I will be doing some basic stuff such as air filters, cabin filter, spark plugs and coil packs (runs fine, but I don't like plugs and coils with an unknown history) and other stuff that comes up after doing a through inspection. Will likely swap out other fluids as well.
Lastly, I want a real deal scan tool for this car. If cost was no object, short of OEM scan tools, what would be a good scan tool? I saw the Autel IM608. What else is in that ballpark or possibly better or is a good value? I figure if I am going to keep this car for a long time (that's the plan) and possibly buy other MBs in the future (we'll see) I might as well spend the money on a real deal scan tool so I can accurately know what's going on without having to take it to a shop since I work on my own stuff. I have a good scan tool for all of my other vehicles and it works well, but I'd imagine a good one for a MB is probably $500-$3000ish. Something that scans every single system (or module) and gives me the ability to program and code stuff if need be. I'm speaking from "very general and very basic" knowledge on German vehicles when using terms such as "programming and coding". Stuff that I've heard over the years, so if I sound foolish, please forgive me. Just give me your honest thoughts on good scan tools for MBs.
Welcome. Enjoy your new ride. I would suggest posting any questions you have in the W212 section of this forum where there will be W212 owners who will be glad to help you.
Congrats on your purchase. I found mine a few months ago.
Get a warranty if you can. I had a dealer 90 day warranty and I took full advantage of it. The MB dealership found about $4500 worth of repairs that were covered. It is all sorted now .
Also make one of your first mods an OE tuning tune. Well worth the money to find the extra horsepower and deleting the throttle lag. Money well spend as far as I am concerned.
You will also need a factory style lip spoiler.
Other than that! ENJOY!
Congrats! Like previously stated, lots of info in the W212 group. Pretty good group of people over there. And, if you really wanna Nerd-Out, go hang out in the W212 AMG room with all the engineers. Some of those guys have insanely fast cars...
I don't know much about the non-turbo E550 motor, but I'd be willing to help you out if you need. just hit me up.
