A207 Comand rotary controller repair

Hi
am new so forgive me if this has been asked and answered. I need to repair the comand rotary controller. I have a new spindle and have 95% of the info needed to get the controller out. The piece of info missing is; do I need to remove the hood controller to remove the centre console top piece to get at the controllers torx screw? If so, how?
TIA

where the coin tray is on the video, my car has the controls for the hood for the cabriolet. It’s this that I need to know how to remove so I can get at the torx screw

did you get an answer ?

Hi Alan
Did you ever get an answer to your question ? I have exactly the same issue - need to repair the rotary Command switch but cannot understand how to remove the soft-top switch and, presumably, access the screw passing through the rotary switch. Easy if you just have a little storage compartment !

Alan,
The PDFs from Konigstiger definitely help.
What also helped me when I replaced my convertible top switch was this: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart...le_Removal.htm

I also need to replace the Command spindle (or entire thing). I’m really kicking myself for not doing it at the same time as the convertible top switch.
Disaasembling and reassembling the center console is kind of a pain.

I tried to do this on my coupe and after I had access to the controller, the wiring was ran very tight and had no slack between the console and where the connector is next to the shifter.
I had a 90 day warranty after purchase of the car, so I asked and they covered it. At that point , I took the car to MB and had them put a new controler in.
Accessing the controller was not so bad but the way the wire was routed is nuts!

I tried to tug on it slightly and by the time I was done with it, not only the rotary function had quit, but the whole darn controller.
Thank God for warranty. That part was $ 386.00 plus $270.00 to install. I paid my $50 copay and was on my way.....
