I'm new to this forum and this is my first post... I wonder if you guys can help me.
I have a beautiful 2010 E350 C207 that was checked by the dealership 10k miles ago with no issues whatsoever. Over the last 5k miles I've been living in the desert and it gets hot.
The first problem I had was the battery sensor going bad which I replaced myself.
Then I got a "very small evap leak" followed by an additional "small evap lea" which went away once or twice but returned. I replaced the fuel cap with a new from amazon - reset the code. Light came back on with the same codes.
So I took the vehicle to a Mercedes Benz mechanic. He told me he would run a star scan and possibly a smoke test to find the fault.
They returned my car in a few hours and said one of the vacuum lines was bad and they replaced all of them.
Two days later check engine light comes on with the same two codes. I go back to the mechanic and he tells me they never used a star scanner. They used an autel scanner and they never did a smoke test. Instead they sprayed some stuff on the engine components and checked for abnormalities. They then went on to say that these codes aren't important and I shouldn't worry about it but I can come back in next week when they have a star scanner so they can do an exact diagnosis.
I'm no expert on mb, can someone please advise what to do in my position. I'm not 100% sure I trust these mechanics.
Find another independent. Best first approach detection method for intermittent leaks, a smoke test. MB diagnostics quick test will identify current/stored fault codes along with diagnostic suggestions. Here is a diagram of EVAP components.
Given circumstances, return but request a no cost STAR quick test + follow STAR diagnostic procedures to correctly repair leak. They claim all lines were replaced, if so this would leave a malfunctioning component: charcoal canister (360), canister valve (370), purge valve (270), and dashpot (200).
360 = part # 2034700659 or 203470065964 (MB direct) same part
370 = 0014701393
270 = 0004708893
200 = 2044700516
