DIY wrapping the fading roof rack trim with vinyl black CF 3M wrap.

So even though I take exceptional care of my cars, my e550 was having a fading issue with the black plastic roof rack trim pieces on either side of the panoramic roof…While I eventually plan for real carbon fiber, I decided to DIY the CF wrap first…To see how I like the look, and to cover the fade as painting them was my only option, or replacing them at $269 per side…This thread is on DIY wrapping and it’s not hard if you’re patient, take your time, pay attention to detail and watch a handful of vinyl wrapping how to videos.

Make sure you have a good quality wrap like 3M and a good knife as the blades are crucial for clean and easy cuts.

Be sure to use a little heat to soften the wrap, (it’s easier to work with) and when you cut it…Much easier and cleaner cut…

Before & After:

Before

Before and faded!

Look how faded that flip up door is…

After wrap

Decided not to cut around the flip ii doors as I do not use them anyway.

Driver’s side completed, passenger side faded…Huge difference!
