New guy, M278 tuning options
Hello MB people,
I recently acquired a 2013 e550 coupe. It is in excellent shape, I love it so far. I have been trying to find out anything and everything I can regarding engine, suspension, perhaps rear diff options, for performance reasons. I have been tracking (not racing, just instructing and track days) a BMW since the early 2000’s and I do mostly all of my work. I have no such intentions in terms of tracking the E550, but obviously it is very difficult to not explore the tuning options that come with a twin turbo. I’m not ready for hardware changes like downpipes and the rest of the exhaust, but I wanted to get your thoughts on the latest offerings for ECU tune. It may be a contentious subject I know, but any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Race Chip
I have been using Race Chip for my E400 for over a year now. Vey easy to plug in. Very reliable and no issues at a reasonable price!

Thanks for the feedback people. I just installed the OE stage 1 in my 550. I am very pleased with it, the change is dramatic, I definitely need more tire now, the torque can just overwhelm the stock setup I have now.
I acquired (with option to buy) some 19” from a 2008-2010 CLS63 9.5 wide offset 28 in the rear. They are gorgeous but from my math they may stick out from the fender too far though. I guess that’s fodder for yet another tire fitment thread, if anyone want to know what the outcome of that is let me know, I will know soon.

It is a no-go for the offsets. The rear rim edge extends about 0.5” beyond the outside edge of the fender. It may be possible to make it work, but I have no way to determine if there would be rubbing. I gave up on these wheels. In this process I created a table with offset numbers for different diameter wheels that would be flush with the fender outside edge for front and rear, along with a set of tire sizes and their dimensions for comparison. I can post it when I clean it up a little.
