W207 Trunk/Boot Seal Issue

Hello All,
I recently bought my 2015 E220 Coupe W207 and have this strange issue with the top corners of the trunk/boot lid seal. Both corners are rusty under the rubber seal. Please see the photos attached. Anyone is having the same issue? What’s the reason and solution? Cheers.

I don't believe this is a commonly-reported problem. Perhaps the car was not garaged and leaves/debris were allowed to build up at the bottom of the rear windscreen and hold moisture there.

Thanks very much. I guess the seal needs replacing?

I would work on stopping the rust before worrying about the gasket. Unchecked, the rust will only continue to spread, even if the gasket is replaced.

It looks like the rubber was stapled and the staples rusted. Remove the rubber and inspect if it the metal has been damaged.

This looks like rust on the metal U-strip that is located inside the seal itself.
In such case I would not expect rust to be on the actual car bodywork (flange in the boot). Hopefully that seal can be exchanged by a fresh one?
