Issue with soft top

I have a small portion of the soft top being pinched near the rear window when I put up the soft top. Anyone seen this before? Suggestions?

yeah my A207 did the same thing in the same place. But not as bad as yours. I just used a plastic trim tool and worked it slowly back into place.

Mine did too. Same place as well. Hmmm?
Open te top just a little bit to relieve the tension and it will be a lot easier to push in place with a plastic tool as recommended above.

Is this reason the mechanic wanted to do a full top replacement for $19,000? Is the material actually separated from the rear window? When you stand outside of the car and put the top up could you push this material back in at that time?

Yes as far as I know this is the reason. When the top is up I can’t get that material to go back inside. It’s too tight. Might be able to do it while the top is going back up but I haven’t tried that.

Right now I’m anticipating that these repairs will be denied. I’m looking at a 2019 E450 Cab with 30k miles as a possible replacement. VIN WDD1K6HB5KF072177

i first noticed mine do it in 2018 a year after i bought the car.. I was very worried since the ext. warranty excluded the top. in my case, it was about 2 inches long and 1/4 inch sticking out.

I do store the car in my garage with the top always up, if that matters. I seem to notice it seems to occur sometime after we take the car out and it is a very hot day in the summer.

Figured out i could just push it back gently with plastic trim tool. Easy peasy. Comes back every 6 months or so. Rinse repeat. Its been in very heavy rain, topical storm rain, w/o any leaks.

YMMV or you could pay me $19000 to "replace" it. Was that cost at an actual MB dealer ? Ridiculous.

Ah ok that makes more sense, knowing how Carvana is I do not think they will consider that worthy of a full top replacement. I know it's better to ask for the moon but they'll consider that probably more of a cosmetic issue vs having a tear in the top that would allow water intrusion. I get it you want the car to be perfect and I would as well for $40k. But that's the beauty of Carvana you may return it if you are not happy with it.

From my understanding, you can replace the rear window separately from the top which may be what Carvana offers as that would probably solve your issue and not be as expensive as a full top replacement.

My rear window defroster grid is broken due to a bad job of someone removing the tint. I have not found anyone to give me a quote to replace just the rear window. The local independent convertible top shop refused to work on it and told me to take it to the dealer. So I will be interesting to see what they come back with for a price.

Be wary of the A238 tops. The cords break, even after replacement for more than a few people. https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-c...er-issues.html
