I do not like any sort of music playing in my cars. I find it distracting. I can't seem to figure out how to properly (permanently) turn off the radio!
When I start up the car, I can faintly hear music playing through the speakers (irritating). If I push-in the round center button (below the radio), the music stops..yet the screen goes black, so this also turns off the navigation. So in order to utilize the navigation system, I have to turn this knob back on. The only way I can figure out how to mute the faint music is to reverse spin the rotary dial located down near where the transmission sport button is located, then reach up and push the navigation button. At that point I can use the navigation in a quiet car. Unfortunately when I restart the car, I have to repeat the above. Aside from removing the radio...or a fuse, or buying a hammer, how in the hell do I permanently mute the radio without going through the above steps at every start up? I have read the owners manual...and I can't seem to figure it out. What am I missing? Jesus Christ....I'm Ivy League educated! I feel foolish.
I don't know if anything changed between 2013 and 2016, but I just press the Mute button on the steering wheel (see blue highlighted controls in section "4" of the Owners Manual screenshot below). This turns off all audio (radio and media), but leaves the COMAND screen on.
Set the music source to something you do not have music on.
Example: maybe install a blank USB stick in center console USB port and then set radio to play from the USB source
should be dead silent after that forever as it will remember that every and always try to play from the USB port when you get into car.
Navigation person can still annoy with directions if you use it.
Heck this might work with out putting anything into the port but a charging cable and your phone w/o music.
