Rear light removal

Hi, I've just bought a new n/s rear light cluster and opened the access flap in the boot to find the screws holding the broken one in don't have nuts on them... What they have are what looks like a washer pushed onto the screw down to the base. There doesn't seem any logical way to get them off so any advice will be appreciated please... The new fittings don't come with nuts either so I'm guessing I have to source 8mm nuts as well.... Thanks....

probably press on nuts to save time making the car. ig you can break the studs, which i assume are plastic? then reuse them. but you should probably post a pix first before you break stuff. if the stud is metal then you can just work the off, if you know what i mean

Hi thanks for the message, yes I reckon your right about the nuts they're also metal and thinner than any washer I've ever seen.... The light I'm removing has a hole in it smack bang in the centre about the size of a golf ball... I think it might be easier to remove the rest of the broken red outer and work at it from the outside of the car, inside of the light as it's all plastic and I can either snap it away with some small cutters or get my bremel disc on it and cut it out....

You have to share how the hole got there...
And pix of the nuts/studs so the next person can have some info for the job, plus I wouldn't mind seeing it
