E400 2018 cabrio on my radar - what to check before buying?
Hey guys, I am writing this with a big smile, imagining the many great rides you must enjoyed with your C/A238’s.
I am looking to make a 1st leap from a sensible family car to a convertible, ideally one I can enjoy top down through all seasons (Sweden) , and was really impressed with the 2018 e-class I test drew recently. Apart from finding its design refined and timeless, I was very impressed with the heating and wind stopping tech, for all 4 passengers. Yet with all that tech, and a 2018 being 6 years old, - what should I inspect before buying it? Any hints are welcome, especially so related to the convertible specifics. the cars I am looking at have a ton of extras, burmesister, driving assistance , heads up display, and that V6 3liter engine I don’t really need but want to enjoy before I hit the electric road.
I am slightly hesitant with the CLE being introduced, normally next gen cars cause a price drop to previous gen I don’t yet see. What makes me less hesitant is that from a convertible tech perspective, I don’t see any additions in CLE compared to A238 - am I missing something? I only spot infotainment and weight/boot space improvements + new design, which even if it grows on me doesn’t make a238 less attractive.

For used 2018 E-400; I would suggest to have the convertible roof mechanism checked carefully for any malfunction or leaks. Our 2018-E-400 was having convertible roof issues during the warranty period and was repaired ( hydraulics ) without any charges or further recurrence. Otherwise, when we traded her in for a replacement 2023 E-450 4-matic convertible, there were still no issues with the old one. Good luck, we enjoyed for 5 and 1/2 years of otherwise trouble-free enjoyment of a beautiful topless 4-wheel drive cabriolet

on the roof issues you had, was it a known issue? Or just bad luck with your specific hydraulics. I have seen a few others remarking on the strings helping to fold the roof being a source of concern. Have you come across any useful guide on how to properly check the roof? Most importantly - My congrats to your new E-450!!! Pics pls :-)

@MagicMile put the top halfway back and stop it there. Look for frayed strings or anything showing wear mechanically. Watch your hands! It will stay at halfway for about 30 seconds then will start to close on you, but you should have time to get a good look at the system.
Hey all, I just picked up my batmobile (2019 E450 Cab) on Friday. 14.8k miles and in very good condition, has the twin display and a few other options. I posted in the W213 section about one piece of window seal trim that is out of place, but that's the only thing I can find (knock on wood). The paint could use a correction detail job but is good overall. I took the pups out for a spin the first night then put in the rear seat and side protection. Super happy to be back in a fun MB.

Just took delivery a few weeks ago on a long-awaited E450 cabriolet. Spent almost 6 months scouring the market from coast to coast for one with the right options, mileage, condition and price of course. Then one day one popped up on the market within 100 miles from home at a MB dealer and we were able to come to a deal that worked I haven't gotten around to taking my own photos yet so these were the dealer listing photos 😂

I am so impressed with the car - truly couldn't be happier. I do need to take it in for a warranty repair (when moving around in the seat while the cooling seat is on, a loud noise comes from the backrest like I'm pushing the leather into one or all of the fan housings in the seat). Definitely odd as the car is like brand-new but this is why I wanted something under warranty - never would have caught this prior to purchase.
Looking forward to chatting with others on here and sharing experiences with these great cars.

Waiting for my new purchase to arrive. 2019 E-450 4MATIC cabriolet with AMC package in rubellite red. I previously had a 2016 SLK-300, which I loved. Very excited to upgrade. Better photos coming once it's in my possession.
