We had a number of issues with out 2018 top. We are not the original owners. All repaired under MB factory warranty. We were told by our service advisor that MB offered an extension of the factory warranty for 3 years@ $3,000.00. We purchased it 3/22. Had another top issue which was covered. Was told that if it had been CPO warranty it would have not been covered.
Point is, if you have the opportunity to purchase the extension in lieu of the CPO it is probably worth it.

Personally, I feel it's either that or a defect, which is also listed as being covered.

Update:
Mercedes came back and offered 75% coverage for the issues with strings and rear window resolution. My final cost would be nearly $4k.
Over the past few days, I have spoken to a few local Vert top specialist who are confident they can epoxy the window in place if the progression has been caught in time. Apparently the canvas shrinks as it ages in the sun and pulls away from window. Both blamed the OEM top material as the issue.
Aftermarket tops that both claim they have used for decades are coming in at a cost of ~$4k to install for the E400 and the tops come with lifetime warranty. MB OEM replacement comes with a 12 month warranty for comparison.
So in the end, MB will repair the strings issue, cover 75% of costs and I will see if the aftermarket guys can epoxy the rear window in place.

Does anybody know if the S class Cabriolet has the same architecture in its roof. Rather than face what seems to be inevitable failure we will consider selling our E400 at the end of the warranty in 3/24.

I want to assure you that the strings breaking a fraying ARE covered by the CPO warranty if in good standing. There are a few forum members including myself that have it repaired under CPO warranty. If the frayed/broken strings won't fold the headliner properly then there is a problem and if that will fix the latch concern then you're 100% covered. My suggestion is find another dealer. The back glass is a totally different issue and requires a whole new top which includes rear window glass and is not covered. Get the strings fixed and see what happens.

Still no resolution
It seems like all of the MB cabriolets have the same defective rear window attachment. My top guy says between 4&5K to replace it with a German made top with a better window design IMO this is a defect in material and workmanship that should be covered. I spoke with MB customer care and asked for a courtesy replacement under my CPO and then the additional 2 years that I purchased. They conveniently came back with they had already done a courtesy replacement of the bluetooth antennae (a $240 job) to fix another problem and they can only do one courtesy repair. Well that repair that was suggested by the dealer did not fix the problem so realistically that repair doesn't count in my opinion. This problem exits across the entire MB /Cabriolet lineup.

One of the things that I opted for when I purchased my E-Class was windshield replacement coverage. It's my understanding that replacing a new E-Class windshield in around $4000.

Just got a 2018 E400 from CarMax with the extended warranty. I’m taking it back in a couple of weeks to see if they will cover it.
Has anyone managed to get this fixed by a third party without replacing the whole top?

2018 convertible, same issue with my top
My rear window had just a few of the discolorations areas but then in the last month grew so much larger .. took it to Mercedes and got a estimate to fix over $17k… I called Corp immediately.. said nothing they can do!! I had leased the car original and then when it was time to turn back in - I had such low miles decided to buy it!! Has anyone made headway with this issue? When it was not covered? This is crazy

2018 AMG C43 Cabriolet
I have the same issue on my 2018 AMG C43. I am also leaving it alone doesn’t leak. I am out of warranty and my top is in great condition. Car is garage kept

I have an S class that has the exact same problem.
S class has the same exact problem. It permeates their entire line of convertibles pretty serious problem very costly to fix
