Hi All,

Im looking at buying a 2019-2020 E400 or E450 saloon/coupe very soon, I thought these were different power levels of the same engine but the 400 seems to sound a lot better. Is there a year where they changed the exhausts or anything? It's difficult to tell over YouTube videos etc but the 450 seems very quiet in comparison.

I have a 2018 E400 sedan and a 2019 E450 coupe. While the E450 has more HP the exhaust is definitely quieter than the E400.

Thanks stark, is there much of a difference performance wise? I quite like the sound of the E400 and am tempted just to go that way. Guessing gas milage is similar?

The E450 has more ho and torque, and in my opinion a little more refined, has the updated command system compared to the E400. If you have navigation you can get traffic with the E450, can’t with the 2018 E400.

I would get the E450

Most likely just tuning to the ECU to make the sound less pronounced (or no/less pops), physical differences in the exhaust I doubt it, unless the E 400 had valves?
