722 transmission lunge?

I have a 1971 250 with a 2.8l sohc 6 cyl. A 4 bolt pan transmission. I adjusted the linkage so there is no pull on it at idle. There are dual webers that are new and the idle is just under 800rpm. When I am not moving, foot on brake, and put it into any gear, the seems to put a tremendous amount of torque to the output of trans. So much so that the rear end of the car drops 3-4 inches in a forward gear and raises as much in the reverse gear. New fluid. In addition, the lock out switch is adjusted and can start in N and P. But the reverse lights don't illuminate. I would like the car to not do that crazy torque thing when I put it in gear.
