300D with 5 speed

My uncle came home today talking about a 300D(turbo) that somebody at his work was selling for 300$. He also thinks the guy said it was a 5-speed. Apparently when he was a kid his uncle was rich and got it straight outta Germany. Apparently it runs fine but needs work on the brakes, they wont release. I already have a 76 240D that im fixing and a 87 300E as my daily driver.

Just wondering how much I could sell it for if it was fixed up?

Are you saying it is a 5 speed manual? or auto? if it is a manual diesel turbo, that would be very rare I have never seen one factory here in the USA or anywhere not saying they don't exist just never seen or heard of one. Only ones that people have retrofitted, if it is in fact a turbo with a manual let me know I would be very interested hope that helps.
PS Also find out what year it is i can't remember if you said W123 or W124 style the 123 I think came just with the cast iron blocks but the 124 had some cast iron or aluminum which most people want and if it is a 2.5 it would deff. be worth the money, probably is no matter what it is or what its got those diesel are tanks.

im not exactly sure right now what year but I think it is between a 82-85. My uncle said he thinks the guy said it was turbo, and yes a 5-speed manuel. I know that you could get them in europe but that they never imported any of the turbo diesels with a manuel transmission.

They never made a turbodiesel car with a manual transmission until 2001. If you find one, the non-turbo engine has been replaced with a turbo engine or the automatic was replaced with the manual.

Not true - in Europe (not the UK) you could buy a w123 300D turbo with a 5-speed manual. Not common at all in America, but it was available.

Where's the car?

The OM617A (3.0L I5 Turbo) engine was available only in North America, except as the 300TD station wagon, which was sold with the turbo engine in Europe. Never was this engine coupled with a manual transmission. With the exception of the station wagon, the first turbodiesel sold outside north america was the OM603A (3.0L I6 Turbo) introduced in the W124.

Oops. I forgot the 190D 2.5T was available outside the states with a 5-speed manual in 1987. USA only got the automatic version.

The 300D was not sold in turbo form with a manual transmission anywhere in the world.

Regarding manual diesels, some of you may be interested to know that the new W&S 204 (C-class) will offer the 320CDI with the 6MT or 7G-tronic. This will be the most powerful manual diesel to date.

Not in the states. We will get the emissions choked E/R/ML/GL320 Bluetec models with the 7-speed automatic.

How many 5-speed manual W123's do you figure made it to The US? I have an '83 300D 5-speed Euro that I've always considered to be somewhat unique. It definitely gets attention, especially because of the AMG badging!

Considering how rare they are, probably 5000 or less total are/were in the USA. Very few considering that 1.4million W123 diesels were made around the world.
