1982 240D with consistent vacuum pump problems

I was wondering if anyone had any insight on vacuum pumps in these cars. I bought this car about 10 months ago and I have already replaced the vacuum pump twice and it appears that I will be needing to do so again in the near future. It's the same old symptoms: ROUGH shifting, hard brakes. It appears that the vacuum lines have all been replaced (to the best of my knowledge) quite recently. What could be causing the pump to keep going out?

are you absolutely sure its the vac. pump? Becuase they should be good for a long time after you rebuild them ( i hope you rebuild them and not buy a new one). Are you sure its not some hidden vac. lines like for climate control?

I have replaced the pump with rebuilds each time. I don't know if it may be one of the climate cont. lines. Could that lead to some of the problems I am experiencing? How would I check them to see if they are the problem?
