'78 300D, more to come soon!
'78 300D Performance

Hi guys! I'm wondering a few things. First, my new phone has a GPS, and I have an application that uses GPS to record speed and distance. It has a feature that finds 0-60 times, 1/4 mile (400m) times, etc. I did two test runs earlier tonight, and then plugged the results in to an online calculator that figures rough horsepower from 1/4 mile time, and it said I am only making about 47hp! That's not right, is it? IIRC the (completely stock) N/A 78 300D produces around 78 HP... My quarter mile time was 25.5, by the way, and 0-60 was about 33.5. Does anybody else here know their quarter miles or 0-60s?

Second question- regardless of whether these times are normal or not, what can I do to keep my lovely Benz near to factory HP output? I've heard about adjusting valve lash, which I have done on other cars (i.e. my Integra), but I also was told that my engine has hydraulic tappets that can't/don't need to be adjusted.

Third question- aftermarket parts? I'm not talking about the cheap ebay air cleaners that guarantee another 15 horsepower or what ever, but are there any legitimate performance parts for these magnificent machines?

Your 78 300D needs to have the Valves adjusted.

The amount of HP that reaches the wheels is not the same as the HP an Engine can put out on a Dynomometer that is only hooked to the Engine.

Being put to the ground.

78hp - 35% for drivetrain, rolling friction and aerodynamics loss = 50hp.

Third question- aftermarket parts?
There are none that do anything.

Your engine is physically limited to 78hp. Changing the airfilter will do nothing at all.
