I recently purchased a 1980 300d, I drove it a 114 miles without a windshield. On my way home with it I noticed the transmission likes to slip when you accelerate to fast, or give it too much throttle. I made it home on the los angeles freeways never breaking 60 mph. Once the transmission warmed up it started shifting much better, however it wouldn't shift without me gearing it up from low. Fast forward to the present day and I've noticed that whenever I put it in drive or any gear lower i instantly get a grinding noise. It does shift and grab, but this noise is a bit concerning. I have checked the trans fluid level it was good and the fluid looked pretty clean. Tell me what do y'all think I should check out, ideas on the attack method?
