I am going to see a Petrol E Class 2020 (January) 47,000 miles 2.0 E200 AMG Line Edition (Premium Plus) next week. Can anyone advise what type of things a layman will be able to look at/check, to ensure I don't end up paying a considerable amount of money for a lemon? I have already done some due diligence i.e. purchased a report showing service, MOT, owner history etc. The car has a full and verified Dealer service history. From the pictures, the car looks very good. Since I will be buying the car from a private individual, it increases the risk and the paranoia. I have also watched a few YouTube Videos on what to look out for e.g. Cold Shift, The “Kickdown” Hesitation,
Torque Converter Shudder, Listen for any thunks or clunks over bumps etc
It appears the current owner has only owned the car since Jan 2025
- His (sounds a youngish chap) reason for selling is that he is downsizing
- According to the report I purchased from CarCheck, It appears people were looking at it since middle of last year
- Last MOT (2 months ago) had an Advisory: Nearside Front Suspension arm ball joint has slight play
Any advice appreciated.
