help please! - car won't start
So I was running an errand today and I came out and the car wouldn't start. I could turn the key and get all the acces. lights, windows, HVAC, etc. but it doesn't turn over at all. We tried jumping the car and "jiggling" the battery cables. Ended up having it towed to a mechanic, they are looking at it right now.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
Starter motor? Wiring harness?

A lot of possibilities really, searching the previous posts might be the most helpful.
Some of the most common:
- overvoltage protection relay/fuse
- neutral safety switch
- ignition switch
- Gear selector not in neutral or park (spouse)

Tesla
I've had this happened to a family member's E-class. Called the MB roadside assistance and they had us go through a sequence of turning the key left and right on the door to reset the computer. Then it started up right away. Forgot the details, but call the 800 number to find out.

is the security system aftermarket or is it the oem alarm system. as far as I know, the oem alarm system does not disable the engine. I have seen plenty of benzes driving around with faulty factory alarms and the horn and lights were flashing, but car was able to start and drive just fine.
If it is aftermarket, they probably just unplugged the alarm system. it probably didn;t remove the ground tot he starter kill relay so it was basically breaking the circuit of your starter.

no aftermarket alarm that I am aware of. There is nothing that appears abnormal under the engine. Pehaps I will call them tomorrow and and ask them exactly what they did.

My 92 doesn't have ignition kill ont he factory alarm, but I use an aftermarket system I installed so its all good.
Adding a few goodies to my alarm too. trunk pop possibly, definately remote start just because I can, window roll ups because I can, and a whatever else I can add. I will add to it since it has 6 channels.

no you would need to add a trunk popper to pop the latch.
It wont make the turnk fly upen simply it is like pushing hte button to open the trunk...
I'm going to rewire my whole car sound and security system later when I get the free time to do it. car is gonna be outta comission for a few days when I do it, because I will be stripping out all the seats and carpeting to run my wiring.

in a nutshell, it is something that will release the latch so the trunk can just be lifted. but the trunk wont fly open when you hit it like on some cars. It will be like pushing the trunk button on the back.
I have to take it apart to see if it is possible as the trunk popper has a cable that pulls the latch release and I am not sure how the trunk button is setup on the w124 and if a cable will be able to pull on anything.

Under the passenger footwell behind the carpet is a panel. behind that panel is the alarm module.
The simple thing to do would be to remove the passenger side carpet. remove the black panel at the footwell. unplug the alarm brain it will be behind the black panel on the right. Plug the alarm back in, lock and unlock the doors and see if that works.
If the car has an aftermarket alarm, it will most likely be mounted here as well.
There are 2 wires for the factory alarm arming and disarming. one is yellow with a green stripe. the other is yellow with a blue stripe. when ground is applied to these wires momentarily, you will hear a relay click.
The yellow/green is the disarm wire.
The yellow/blue is the arm wire.
You can probably find these at the plug for the alarm brain, if not, you have to open the black plastic panel that is on the floorboard on the right, and open the wire loom to find those wires. theres like 50 wires in there, so you have to be careful.
I always use a test light and multimeter to test my wires.
This could save you another trip to the mechanic.
I would try to give the yellow wire with the green stripe a quick hit to ground then remove it from ground and see if the car will start.
