91 300TE: Check engine light on and fan speeds of climate control don't work: Why?
Hello everybody,
since Friday, the check engine light on my 1991 300TE has been glowing. Simultaneously, the fans speeds of the climate control have stopped working. I can still feel ait faintly coming out, but I can't change the fan speeds anymore. Engine temperature and fluids all are normal, but when I drive the car it starts to smell like rubber after a while. I will try not to drive it till I get it fixed. Can anyone tell me what the problem could be?

As for the engine you will have to read the fault codes from the KE injection system.
The fan problem is most likely because the blower motor regulator got fried. A new one is close to $300 online. You have to remove the windshield wiper and fresh air grille to get to it.

I had the fan problema few years back and it ws just a fried cable. I am beginning to think that some animal feasted on my wiring since both problems occured simultaneously and the car is always parked outside.

Same problem
unfortunately i just recently got 300te wagon (for a steal not complaining) with pretty much same problem... check engine on, fan buttons wont work... though when we got the car the heat wasm't working at all...my boyfriend is a mechanic and he checked it out...bypassed some so now it blows air but its blasting the defrosters on...can't get it to change..im actually looking right now for replacement buttons if anyone knows where to get some...or even if they're fixable and how to fix them
