1990 300ce-24 not shifting into 5th????
Hi All,
So far I have replaced the throttle body assembly and done a general cleaning on the transmission but no luck. The Dealer feels that the car needs a new ignition control unit (about $1200).
It does kick down to 5th intermittently if I run it up to about 160km/hour.
Any Ideas????

As far as I know the 300ce only had a 4 speed tranny, but I believe in some euro models you could get a 5 speed.
Are you driving a Euro version or a U.S. version?
The U.S. only had 4 speed, but in europe I believe you could get a 5 speed option.
Not 100% sure.

Thanks for the reply,
I am in Canada, and yes this is a european model. I imported it from Japan last December.
The NA models only had 4 speeds but this is definately a 5 speed.
It does shift into 5th sometimes, but usually only after hard acceleration.

Need Help 300 Ce Problems
first of all can someone tell me how to post a new thread on here. 2nd of all i have a 92 300ce. the problem with the car is this. it runs fine in park and drives fine. it just started happening that when i have my foot on the brake and i am not moving it starts making a rattling or clinking noise. i have no idea what this could be. when i acclerated the noise goes away and when i have it in park it also does. it only makes the noise when i am at a complete stop with my foot on the brake. can someone help me with this problem.

Please take in consideration that there are 3 types of this car, one from europe, another form Japan and the other fron USA
Go here and write your VIN

And search if your model is from Japan or Europe
Do you have a Box named HGS? (in the back of the battery) If it is yes, to remove it and you will have 5th, but not 4th.
You should have the 722.5 type transmission. Please send me your email and I will send you my 722.5 service manual.
In general, when you cannot upshift from 4th yto 5th it is beacuse:
1.- Selector lever position "D" (there's a swich behinfˇd the shift lever that work with "4" or "D" position
2.- Intake manifold vacuum
3.- Engine RPM
Have luck
