Paint????

Ok i went to a few guys and only one offered to paint my 300ce with an amg kit. HE SAID IT WOULD TAKE 2 MONTHS and he would charge $4,000.

I need a good painter in so cal around $3,000. the body is straight but it has a few door dings. i also want to mod my front valance to include an expanded metal intake instead of the abs slats.

I want the car stock mbz red. no fancy stuff and i want it color sanded. i can go $4,000 but it can't take 2 freaking months.

any recommends?

BTW so cal painters only. i live in Corona and i have a 2nd car so i can drive that while its being painted.

lots of cars
Im thinking i need to go to another forum or buy another car lol! concours paint jobs on a 300ce and I read these forums and people seem to try and restore their benzes back to better than new? I think it's a waste of money if you try to restore a benz like that unless you have a limited production benz or an AMG Hammer! But a AMG Conversion 300ce ????? My Mustang resto-mod is an invesment my 300E is my daily driver! So if this benz does not fall under special edition, limited edition, or limited production then don't waste your money unless you have money to burn! Give it a 2k paint job as long as it's block sanded, 2 stage, color sanded, rubbed, and polished! Trust me here in long beach there are lot of good painters!

Eric,

When it comes to paint & body you do get what you pay for. If your budget is $3g's you can get something pretty decent. I've checked out Lansky and his work is top notch but you're going to pay over $4g's. Check out Mobworks or the other one Alon sent you to. If they're still a lil over your budget come check out my ride if you like the paint & quailty I'll refer you to my guy. What color are you looking at?

*YNVDIZW124 , just like people have a luv for classic Mustangs we have a
luv for our classic W124's. To each their own, I can simply reply back to you why do so many people bother to restore their lil V6's?? If it isn't a true V8 Mustang why bother?

Paint should take about 4 weeks tops if the painter is only doing your car. Hell no earl shiev and 1 day paint and body! What I would do it to go to car shows and ask people where they got their cars painted or go to body shops and see their work and ask for prices. Paint is a pain in the *** that's why is so expensive but also price is set by color so if you have black or red then expect to pay around 3k to 4k.

When I paint my car it's gonna be a top notch job....because when it comes to paint and body....you get what you pay for...unless you know somebody.

BTW, don't plan on retiring on that "investment"..I have two friends, both of whom, have classic Mustangs, one a 65 and the other a 67. The 65 has over $15,000 in to it and it looks great...for a 65 Mustang(LOL). But he can't get more than $12,000 for it...TOPS! The 67 is still under construction but should be done by the end of this year...again, about $15,000 in to it....he says it's money he'll never see again. Now you're saying well that's them...Well, like MB'z, Mustangs are the same, if it ain't a Shelby or a California Special or at least a conv., what's the point? So you might want to keep that in mind. Also, next year your car will be a "classic"....with the way MB quality has gone way down over the last 10 years, and that you own one of, if not the best, production MB'z ever MADE,you might wanna "invest" that Mustang money into you 300, you never know?

You may laugh but there are some good painters South of the Border. It's worth it to SoCal people who don't have to transport a car very far. They strip to metal and do all the prep work for about 70% US costs. The trick is having an "agent" who has a business relationship and knows how to deal with them. This guy is one and does upholstery as well: http://www.914club.com/bbs2/index.ph...T&f=4&t=15897&

not really laughing here since most of those guys cross the border and work at the shops we have our cars fixed and painted at.

.....email sent. hope to get a good reply soon.

what a long a$$ day. i went to newport for breakfast to meet these 914 guys. then i met mike who brokers stuff in TJ. from there we went to S.D. to his pad. we chilled there and then went across the border.

here is how it breaks down. i gave them a pretty big laundry list of items i wanted done. they said i would get 5 layers of paint and 3 layers of clear. each layer will be blocked if need be. they will color match and do everything on my wishlist. they will have it complete in 1 week not 2-3 months.

i can return in 2 weeks after the paint cured and have it color sanded and buffed.

Total price $1,580 US greenbacks.

the price for the colorsand and buff is another $90

i am so in. how could they screw up with that much paint?

People would be surprised at the quality of paint & body down south. It's just a shot in the dark sometimes just like up here, you can only go with people's recommendations and hope for the best. Good luck to you, just pay them half up-front no matter what they say about needing to buy supplies etc..
