Cool Will start a carbon fiber hood project for my 300e any ideas?

People think im crazy for all the mods im going to do on my benz and no im not going to buy a bunch of parts and call it custom. Im really into the exterior and interior of my benz and I just kept my engine stock for now. I want to overlay carbon fiber on my stock hood because i can't really afford an all carbon fiber one and I haven't seen no one really sell one that is cheap. I have a lot of ideas for my benz and most are under $100 because I really don't have money to spend having 3 babies and a wife! It's hard to spend money when you have a wife, a 13 month old boy, a mercedes, and a 1969 mustang (LOL had it since i was 14). Anyone with tips on how to do this or hookups where to get carbon fiber then post here! I have a secrets on how to make your own custom bumper for only $100 or more depends how tricked out you want it but only if you live in So. Cal. because I will keep my secrets only with fellow 300e owners in cali so whe can stand out from the whole country!

I'm not feeling the idea of the carbon fiber hood.

Do you have any pictures of your car as of right now?

Let me know also about this trick for making your own custom bumber.

haters crazy
You want real carbon fiber or just that vinyl crap which will probably peel off your hood. You need to buy the carbon fiber cloth and resin and its not as easy as it sounds to do. You can get that stuff off ebay if you want it cheap. It would be just for looks and would look weird because your hood would be thicker and raised higher than the fenders, but whatever floats your boat. Does your custom bumper involve body fill cuz it will crack REALLY fast.

why don't you take a picture of your car and photoshop a carbon fiber like look onto the hood so you have an idea what it will look like. Personally I think they don't make carbon fiber hoods on benz's for a reason. I'd think twice before actually putting money into it.

I think it would look good but you have to keep that whole look through-out the entire car...in and out. the only draw back is that it would look a little "Ricey".

Very true about what Tony said. You would have to go in and out with the CF and of course make the CF flow with the exterior of the car. Other than that, if it doesn't...your hood will look out of place and the draw back would be a wannabe 'ricer' type of deal.

We would have to see pictures of your car first.

To answer all of your guys questions no i don't think it will look ricey because my car color is black pearl so you will not notice it unless the sun hits it. I do know how to use fiberglass and carbon fiber should be the same wet lay process. About the bumper I don't really wanna post anything about it here because then we are going to see a lot of people with it. It will not crack becasue it's made of urethane and you can hit any speed bump and no prob! I had mine for 4 months and hit curbs and all kinds of shhh on the road and it even helped my car cool off faster becasue it has an air dam. The fiberglass and body filler is used to fill in any gaps and is not part of the structure of the bumper so no cracking unless you hit it with a hammer.

Dude i checked out that june 11th meet post and I really don't wanna go to a meet were there are brand new benzes with lorinser body kits and me show up with my home made one! Anyways i see that this is not an all w124 meet and i live in long beach so newport and orange county is way to far for me. I mean it's cool people like to spend money and show off their rides but not for me because i don't have money. If I go people are either going to like it or hate it because they got more money than me to spend.

That's not entirely true...we dont go to meets to put down others and what they have done to their car. It's a meet so we can all get together and discuss about our rides and enjoy ourselves. Like you said, you've never been to a meet before so you don't know how exactly it is.

If we're lucky, our 124 club will be up and running and we'll be there to represent so you wont be the only W124 there. Plus, we all have our own share of custom homemade parts.

We should organize a w124 meet of only w124s.

I would prefer a sunday.

Maybe something inbetween all of us, though I don;t mind a little drive.

Damn Sundays I work.. I'm thinking two things you can do about the CF hood.
Overlay it with the CF strips or even the fake ones then have a a body shop spray mulitple layers of clear over the hood. That way after they buff it dwn the clear will help the CF strips from peeling.

You can also have a body shop paint your hood to look like CF. I've seen it done in person and it's very hard to tell the difference, you have to really look at it
