Bulbs!

Well I've decided against doing the bi xenon conversion this summer since I'm getting an apt in New York for school starting Fall '05 semester:

So instead I just want new bulbs so I can at least enjoy some decent white headlights for a couple months. I know a lot of people have their preferences, so what are your opinions on the nicest, whitest lights that my wires can handle? PIAA? Sylvania? Osram? Thanks in advance.

Ok but since I'm not getting HIDs, in your experience, what was the best of the bulbs you found before you got HIDs?

True, but I have PIAA Xtreme white bulbs and they give me a pretty nice white lighting at night. I guess I'm pretty much satisfied. I'd go with PIAA if it was me, but then again some guys on this forum will argue against that and say Sylvania & Osram are "far better" than PIAA's. I believe it's all on user preferance. I've seen Sylvania & Osram and it's not my cup of tea. If you can afford HID's, that would be awesome then I would go that route, but I'd rather spend that money towards something else. If you want PIAA's, let me know, I know a good ebay seller where you can get both H4 & H3's for about 100 bucks.

Well I got a gift from someone for my birthday from Strauss that I don't want so I'm just going to return it and buy the bulbs from there, but thanks anyway. I've got the cash for HIDs but I figure with only a couple months to enjoy it, I would rather just save the money. Do you know of any comparison articles or pictures between Silver Stars and Xtreme Whites?

I can't find any Silver Star acticles, but my friend has Silver Stars in his GTI and the difference is really A LOT. It made me think, you wasted your money buying those. They say they are supposely "white" bulbs, but I just consider them to just be stock replacements. I don't think there is any comparison, plus these days...you get what you pay for. PIAA bulbs or 40 bucks Silver Star bulbs.

Thank you but I obviously have already seen that thread since I replied to it a few months ago. And yeah Sylvania says whitest and brightest but if you ask PIAA if theirs is the whitest and brightest they will say of course. That's why you need customers' advice and opinions. Right now the two I'm debating are the Silver Stars and the Xtreme Whites. Someone chime in with some Sylvania bias! lol :p

You should get EURO headlights first because you won't be able to use the HID kit afterwards because the light bulb plugs will be different.

Since those are H4 HID kits, you'll be fine AFTER you get the euros. Yeah, my friend the kit on his car. it's definitely nice.

You can pick yourself up a pair of silverstars from ebay for around $25. I put a pair in my Sentra and they worked really well. PIAAs are cool but too pricey for me, it seems more like you're paying for the importing than the bulbs themselves. Just stay away from the xenon blue/white crap you find at your local import shop.

$61 for PIAAs vs. $25 for silverstars?? I think he just wants something temporary until he can get HIDs.

I am a Sylvania distributor ( not on the Automotive end - Commercial and residential ) and I was given samples for my Benz and my Maxima - I think the product sucks ! Extremely short life span - my rep replaced the ones for my Maxima 3 TIMES IN 30 MONTHS - after the 3rd time I went with Philips and haven't had a problem since ( 28+ months ).

PIAA's will be fine with your stock headlight wiring I believe.

Aren't you going to upgrade to Euro's? I'd rather just wait.

Yeah, all you have to do is take off the headlight cover on the back. Unplug the harness, there will be a turn thingy that locks the bulb in place, Turn that and it will unlock it and then you'll be able to take the light bulb out. It's a easy job, the creamish thing that locks the bulb in place and be a b!itch to turn though. Well for it me was.

I have the Silver Star Xtreme whites on my C Class...just OK.
I had the PIAA bulb and I love it but it only last for six months or so. After two or three set I switched to Silver Star.
