Red face I love my car!

Hello all, I have just bought a '94 E320 with 110,000 miles. I have wanted this car since I was a teen, I am now 25. It is the same color as the '93 300E my mother had when I was in high school, Ice Blue. I love this car; I drove 300 miles to buy it over the weekend. Other then the driver’s seat headrest and front of the seat (up/down) not working all was great. I can hear the motors work they just don't move anything.

My baby has developed a problem though. When sitting at idle with the A/C on and the car in gear I sometimes feel a bump or a thump. I first though the tranny was acting up, it felt like it was shifting in and out of gear. After a few trips though I have found that if the A/C is off (or in EC) or the tranny taken out of gear it stops right away. When it does this bump or thump the tach drops 100 or 200 rpm. So for this to happen the A/C must be on and the tranny must be in gear at idle.

Has anyone ever had this happen to their car? I feel like it may be the tranny mount but the car shifts into R and D ok. Any help you guys could give would be great. In case I can't track this down myself does anyone know of a good mechanic in the Atlanta area?

Thanks
Ken

My 92 300E does the samething, this morning in fact, but usually ONLY when it's cold, first thing in the morning...sometimes when I'm in traffic. Don't know what it is but doesn't happen enough to be a problem.

I´d throw in new plugs. That "thump" you describe, sounds a bit just like misfiring.
Besides, since you just bought the car, checking out the basics is always a good idea. -Plugs, leads, fuel filter etc.

Cheers,

Thanks for the replies. I think that I have tracked down the problem. I found a post on mercedesshop.com from a few years ago that is the exact problem as mine.

I have ordered new plugs and spark plug connectors. I will post the results.

I love this car, it really starts to pull around 4000 rpm's. As for the pics I will post them as soon as I find out how.

Thanks,
Ken
