87 300e problem

hello to all, i hope you guys can help me solve the problems im having with my '87 benz.

just recently, my car will run 2-5 sec and then will die. first i replaced the fuel filter, it didnt work. second, i replaced the fuel pump near the fuel filter, it ran for a couple of days but while it is idling, it chokes. and then yesterday it stalled on me that it went back to it's original problem. starts up for 2-5 sec and then die...

i need your help guys, if i cant fix it, i'll probably just sell the car to whoever is willing to buy it. im from west covina,ca. (626)

thanks.

This is a common problem on the M103 motor. Unfortunately, there is no easy fix. It "could" be a laundry list of things. The best route in my opinion, is to find an independent MB specialist shop and have them run a diagnostics. There are so many things you can try and test yourself that it would take you two days to trouble shoot the problem. Personally it sounds like either the OVP or the idle control valve, but it might not be either. Good news though is that once it's fixed, you've got a reliable bullet proof car again.

just to add to his reliability , i take my car there all the time. he tells you what you need. he fixed my problem of my dash lights ( none of them worked ) and he did it very quickly and for free. all he had to do was disconnect the headligh windshield wipers... i never use those anyways. great guy and really close to us. i go down onto irwindale then get onto the 210 west then get off on madre and turn right, first street with the stop light ( i forgot the name ) you turn left. about 3 blocks down is his shop. there is some other german shop on the way there. don't go to that one. call him up and make an appointment. well worth it!

thanks for all your inputs, i trully appreciate all your help. but due to lack of funds and a little amount of time, my wife and i came to a conclusion to just sell the car. i am open to any offers rite now and willing to pay the towing up to 100 miles. i hope its an easy fix, in a span of 2 months i replaced the spark plug and spark plug wires, fuel filter, fuel pump.

LnkPrkSoldier: hello neighbor, im from lark ellen and vine.

thanks again.

I agree with mhorn....could take a bit of doing but you will end up with a bullet proof car. Had a similar prob and a set of injectors sorted it. Have to be a bit of a DIY glutton to save money tho'.

Well first things first! Since no one is giving you ideas let's start with the relays and sensors. Is your OVP relay (the one behind the battery with a fuse in it) working? is the fuse ok? Check you fuel pump relay (I got an extra one but has a bad contact so it works for like 2-4 hours). Did you check your coil? does it get hot? was the car running good before or just started to do this out of nowhere? More info on what the car is doing please! Most people would think just to go buy parts to see if it can be a cheap fix but this makes you lose more money! Ok if you turn the key tell some one to open the gas cap and listen to see if the fuel pump is working. If it is then that's one problem solved if it's not first check your fuel pump relay because this cuts power to the pump so don't go and buy a new fuel pump. I had a problem like this but it was a bad ignition module the one on the side with the two connectors and the vac tube going to it. This is not an expensive problem if you buy parts on ebay and DIY but if you go to a mechanic PLEASE DON'T LET HIM LEARN ON YOUR CAR and charge you for it. Most good mechanics should have the tools and knowledge to test these parts.

amg-eric: jerry called me and offered me $, if things went through with him i'd sadly sell the car tonight.

iam embarrassed to tell you guys that a sale is pending tonight, id like to thank all who gave advice and tips to fix it the car. rite now, due to our first newborn baby all the attention goes to him, time and money. me and my wife will carpool to work for the mean time. but the extra money coming from the car is a big help for us specially that my son's baptism is this saturday.

thanks again.
