W124 1993 300E 4Matic Question
If someone is availabale to repair the car for less, parts and labor on the side, I could consider that. I'm in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area and would travel to Chicago, IL or some other destination like that within reason.

Don't hack into the wiring harness, you're just asking for some kind of fire or other catastrophe. What you could do instead is take your car to an independent Mercedes shop, it will probably be a lot cheaper than the $4500 your dealer wants. If you wanted, you could also just remove the front driveshaft and make it a rear-wheel-drive only.
"This week on Shadetree Mechanic, Joe Bob and myself will install a 4Matic toggle switch on one-a-them **** rigs."
You know Dave, I know the guy who originated the 'Shadetree Mechanic' ... an everyday neighborhood mechanic from Orlando ... worked all his life to keep his shop open and food on his table ... sumbitted the idea for the show via video tape to Buena Vista Productions (I think that's its name ... and I think it is or was owned by the 'Mouse'), they signed an exclusive contract with him, then a few months later, squeezed him out, hired the current hosts ... and never paid my friend a penny. Well that is, until the lawyers got thrown into the mix.
You know, I tried to get a-hold of my friend (from the story above) last week ... the ship to shore telephone on his yacht must have been broken.
