optima battery???

i was just wondering if any one has but a optima battery in their 124( iam sure some have). my current battery is dying(only pushing 10v at the battery). i would like to upgrade to a yellow top optima because of future stereo install. optima does not seem to list a battery for my application, and i was told by a local battery shop that it could be done but the battery tray would have to be broken to make it fit. i would like to know what people have done to fit them in to their cars. and help would be great.
thanks,
justin

You won't find a 41 or 43 series batter made by optima. You'll have to settle with a 35 or 24 series. They recommend the red tops for upgraded stereo applications whereas the yellows are more for the performance minded. You could also check at your local auto parts store for their version of orbital batteries. They're just as good as the optimas and even come w/ a warranty.

I have an optima bluetop in my car. Only cause it is blue..

You should have no problems fitting an optima red top group 34. reverse post should work.

funny you should ask. i was speaking with a mechanic buddy of mine that also does automotive wiring. i asked him if i should change to an interstate or optima battery. his exact words word "why bother mbz makes a great product, and mbz has lots of electrical things going so stick with the large mbz battery."

now if u want to save a few bucks on a mbz battery. call mbz roadside service and tell them your battery died. they will install a new battery for free. to be more specific the labor is free. the batter will cost what it costs. however it is a great way to save labor and effort. i have done this 2x since purchasing my benz.

Interstate is a good choice for a replacement. Interstate has been a supplier of Mercedes branded OEM batteries in the US. The group 49 MTP-91 has an 85 month warranty with, I think, a free replacement in the first 3 years. The battery lists at $116 but you can get it for less less than $100. At 700 CCA it really has the cranking power! Just replaced my failed battery last week with this one and have never had the Benz crank over so fast before!
Advance Auto has one, I am told, that looks just like the Interstate with the same 85 month warranty for less than $80.
The Optima has had excellent reviews but they do not make one with the terminals on the correct side for the 124 series - you have to cross the cables or something for the install.
My preference through the years has been to purchase the highest capacity battery available as well as one with a high rating for quality & reliability.

I didn't have a problem fitting my blue top in, and the red top has 2 versions standard post and reverse post.

I have never had a problem with my optima, and it is over 3 years old and still works like new. I recently had it tested by my optima guy, and he said its good to go and keep going. 800+ CCA doesnt hurt either.

I have a Optima Blue in mine. I won't go with any other....especially if you plan on having a system in your car. I went with Blue top for deep marine cycling.Supposedly it's better to use marine batteries when you're running big systems..

Yellow top is also deep cycle....

I got the blue top because it matches the blue painted covers in my engine compartment...

But I always liked the marine batteries because they generally have more amp hours.
