black chrome or anodizing?
anyone ever had either of these done? i know mark is redoing his wheels for his 129. i need a guy in OC that can do my wheels in black chrome. if you dont know what black chrome is it is the same finish as your trim on your winscreen and back window.
the reasoon i need this is i am going that color on my amg monobloc 2 wheels. some of you didnt like the flat black but with shiny grey/black the car looks nice.

Eric, I might know of a wheel shop that could be able to do it for you. They're located in anaheim but I'll try to get the information and more detail for you later when I talk to my friend.
They do a pretty good job, my friend got his Carlsson wheels worked on and what not and then powdercoated to a nice finish. So I'm pretty sure they would be able to do what you want.

my buddy jonny at jonny lightning owes me in trade so he is going to have them done. its just a matter of getting the correct finish i want with the correct terminology.

To anodized them you will have to sand them and do all kinds of stuff to make them look good because they are basicaly going to look black and black shows!
Black nickel plating is like chrome plating but without the chrome. After the nickel is applied another layer of nickel but with a black oxide to give it color. Also you need to apply a clear coat or clear powdercoat after this process because it can be scratched easily.

i think that is "black chrome" or basically what we are calling it for ignorance sake. i will ask jonny about it tomorrow when we go moto-x riding.
is powdercoting clear better then clearcoat?????? i have seen nice powder coat jobs but never a clear one.

Sorry I forgot. The difference of black nickel and black chrome is that black chrome is clear chromeplated black nickel wich makes it more shiny but you want a satin/flat look don't you.

The only reason i don't like blackchrome or nickel is that it looks dark brown or some kind of purple blue if you look at it close up. The cheapest way would just be to paint them and if you don't like them then just paint them again. Black chrome or whatever will be permanent and expensive.

i asked my buddy jonny of jonny lightning about the dbl nickel coat. he said he was under the impression that nickel is really soft. is clear coat enought to make it road worthy? or do i need to power coat it clear?

What's a matter w/polished AMG Monoblock II? I've seen them on a W210 and it looked awesome. Personally I like the chrome look, but I've had bad experience with 2 sets of wheels. Chrome wheels peel....it's just a matter of time.
Polished wheels look just as shiny as chrome without the peeling. When the wheels look dull a few years down the road, you can always get it polished again for a fraction of what it would cost for new wheels.
I personally think your red car would look hot with the AMG Monoblock II polished. IMO black wheels look good only on black or white cars.

additionally i like the look of the pic i posted above. the grille still needs to be worked out but i am confident in that other thread i will work it out soon.
