Freddie, you clown. lol He has Bilstein Heavy Duty shocks. I on the other hand have Bilstein Sport Shocks which are completely different from Bilstein HD's.

Charles, how come you went with Bilstein's HD and I'm wondering if you lowered your car or if they were simply a replacement for your stock shocks? Either way, HD's can be beneficial for some people. Take Alon for example, he just installed them on his car and he's a happy camper. I'm sure he will add to this topic soon with his thoughts about it.

Still I'm wondering why people want to install HD's with lowering springs. Not talking about you by the way, it's just a thought.

I have the Bilsten HD installed on my car but I didn't lower my car therefore the height doesn't change.

Bilsten HD vs. Sport: If your car is lowered you should get the Bilsten Sport because it is about 1.5" shorter but its still shouldn't affect the height of your car because the weight is rest on my springs.

My car is lowered. But it was too low for my wheels/tires.

I just installed the bilstein hd's and they raised the rear up so I now have a finger gap instead of a gap so small a piece of paper couldn;t fit in it. THis is what I wanted because I needed the rear to be higher.

I am happy with mine. they work great even with the lower springs.

The bilstein sports and hd's are the same thing, same valving etc, the only difference is the sports are slightly shorter.

If you want to lower your car a bit without changing springs/shocks, try changing the spring pads to the thinnest ones.

I think there is a big misconception that the springs hold all the weight of the car. the shocks do hold some of the weight from my experience. if you removed the shocks completely, I am willing to bet your car would drop significantly more than with the shocks in it.

...

i just replaced the front struts and rear shocks.... i didnt do anything to the springs... it wasnt lowered or anything... i just felt that they needed to be replaced because of noise i was getting in the rear going over speed bumps... I replaced the original factorys and i guess that they had settled and i liked the hieght...

spring pads have been suggested before... and i very may well do that... but could i just simply get the springs replaced to shorter ones? i guess i need to find out my other obtions..

1. spring pads
2. ?

-thanks...
ill try to post some before and after pictures

HDs can increase ride height

I have HDs with Eibach ProKit springs. I did everything at one time, so I can't say if my car is higher with the HDs. My friend installed HDs on his 1991 190E and his car it definitely did increase the ride height. His shocks were the originals and his car was obviously sloppy before he replaced the shocks. I have read that the new shocks may just be restoring the car to the original ride height.

You can certainly adjust the ride height with the spring pads or with new springs, but it is not a real easy job and you will need an alignment when you are done.

HDs with Eibach & 1-bump front 3-bump rear
