External Temp

My external temp display doesn't work in my '94 E420, can anyone tell me the usual cause or most likely cause. I really don't want to get into the dash.
Thanks,
Bill

08 Lexus GS350 AWD. 08 Lexus RX350 AWD - wife's. 94 MBZ E320 - still have it.
The entire system has only 2 parts: a sensor on the front bumper behind the front license plate with a long cable, (about $40), and the gauge itself, in the dash (about $250) Thats it. I had to replace both. I started with the sensor, which did not fix the problem, then replaced the gauge, which took care of it.

Thanks Arnie,
You don't happen to know where the Oil Filter is located do you?

The filter is behind and below the air filter.

temp gauge

you might want to try ebay for the temp gauge parts, they are pretty cheap, and most times you get useable parts

How much of a deal is it to replace the outside temperature gauge?

Not too difficult. The wire however, if I remember right, runs all the way to the fuse box. It seems like the stupid thing is a mile long.

My 95 E320 reads 120 - 160 degrees, seems like it shows at least 60 degrees more than it actually is

Could this be the actual sensor itself?

TIA
