1992 300E automatic (M103) Question
Hi,
I have this problem where the engine stalls shortly after a cold start, and I'm trying to diagnose the problem.
Can any one tell me what happens during the first 10 minutes after cold starting that usually does not? What unique components runs that otherwise doesn't?
The reason I'm asking is because the stalling problem only happens during this time period. The way it happens is when I get of the accelerator, the RPM needles jumps to 0, and then when the car slows down the engine dies.
Since this only occurs during this time period, I would assume I can isolate the problem by figured out what happens during these first few minutes, that doesn't happen otherwise.
Thanks.

Based on what you posted, my GUESS is the ICV.
"when the car slows down the engine dies" This statement leads me to believe it's a sticky idle control valve. You can either clean it or just replace it with a new one.

when the car is cold more fuel is injected. there is a cold start circuit and i think there is a cold start injector too. it al depends on the temerature sensors in the intake, for the outside air and the coolant.

lots of cars
You might want to change the temp sensor in the back of the block by the 6th cylinder. It's a green one with two prongs. Also check the fuse on the over voltage realy. I would then go to the idle control valve. Remove it and check that the hose going to the intake housing it not cracked! i had this problem before. Soak the idle control valve in gas and shake it to make sure you cleaned it good. Also let it dry or blow dry it.
