Lots of problems!!

Well I'm wondering if I have made a mistake getting my Mercedes....here goes! I was reversing out of my drive today and the ABS light came on and the engine started to run rough. On driving I noticed a loss of power and the ABS light remained on. Managed to get to work but after returning to the car I found it hard to start... after some time I managed to get it started and get home although the engine was still lacking power and the ABS light still on. I removed the air intake housing and could see some fuel coming from the side of the electro hydraulic pressure actuator. I removed the unit to see what was happening. I replaced the 2 small O rings and the engine is still lacking power and not staring well..there is also some seeping of fuel where the pressure unit fits the fuel distribution unit. Well i think it's a trip to our local Merc dealer!! Has anyone else had a similar problem like this?

is a German Tank
hmmm....

my ABS light has been on every since the day after I replaced my alternator, although it hasnt had any effect on my engine.
I think you may have a different problem here as the ABS light is an indication of brake problems...

Well it's very strange indeed...Last week the same problem happened with the ABS light coming on and poor engine running....the next day all was ok and I thought little of it, however this time the fault is not going away.. I have replaced the plugs, dist cap and rotor arm with no effect...The car was standing for several months before i bought it and I wonder if this may be a problem!..I bought the car because of the amazing condition and the fact it has full servive history and one owner. I have owned many classic cars in the past..mostly Jaguar and Rolls...The Merc drives just as well and in some ways is a better car....when working of course...!!

I found the starting problem to be a loose wire going to the coil...The car is booked into local Mercedes today....£89.00 per hour + vat .....how do they get away with it...Last year I had some work carried out on my Rolls Royce brakes by a dealer in London and they were £60 per hour..believe me a Rolls is much more complicated than a Merc!!...I will keep you updated...

Just had a call from the Mercedes dealer to say my car is ready for collection....I asked what the problem was and evidently the engine management protection relay was faulty causing the engine and ABS problems...I wonder what the bill is going to be!!

the engine management protection relay
More commonly known as the OVP (Over Voltage Protection) relay.

It's called a OVP Over(load) Voltage Protection relay. If you jumped the car recently you probably blew the 10A fuse...a $0.30 fix. Dealership probably replaced the whole relay for a total of $80-$90 plus labor.

You are correct..I just got home with the car...they fitted a new relay and with labour and vat it was £114...The mechanic said it was the cause of the poor starting, rough running and abs fault...he said it was more then likely age related and they take a hard life with stop staring etc...I had spent over £200 on parts that I thought were at fault..so perhaps going to the dealer has saved me money as I was going to carry on replacing injection parts!!...I will use them again without delay unless it's an obvious fault I can fix.....
