Rattling noise
Hey guys,
I have a 1992 300e. I had a blown head gasket that I caught i the early stages. I had the head machined as well. changed radiator, timing belt, and timing belt guide at the same time. That was about 12K ago.
The car seems to drive fine overall. The only prob im having is that there is a faint rattling noise when i accelerate hard above 2500 or 3K. Also, the faint rattling can be heard which going uphill but only running at about 2K. The noise is similar to like a tea kettle rattling or somthing o that nature. It is very faint to hear but I want to hop on it before it develops into somthing worse. I had an old honda that made the same noise but alot more loudly and it ended up being a crack in the block between cylinders 2 and 3. hoping for the best but expecting the worst lmk what you guys think...

things with and without wheels
It could be few things ;
shaved the head and didnt use thicker gasket so you changed the compression ratio and now it's pinging -try using higher octane fuel see if it goes away.
Cam bearings making noise
cam follower worn
Try to determine if it's coming from the top of the engine or the lower part.

Symptoms point to pinging.
If low-test gas isn't your problem, perhaps timing was reassembled incorrectly, i.e. slipped a notch.
