Just got finished installing Giga MP3 Player

Ok...No drooling:-) I just installed a JVC KD-ADV6160 DVD-MP3 Stereo, sweet little unit. It plays MP3's burned onto DVD Discs, many many hours of music folks! Install was a jiffy, just a wiring harness and everything worked. Circuit City had me freaked out that I was going to have to re-wire my entire car, they claimed that the factory amp in the car (right side of trunk) would not accept high power inputs from the new unit. Which makes total since, and I did run into that problem installing an after-market unit in my ML430. I just got done installing it, all 6 speakers work great and the sound is 10 fold. Enjoy the pics...

Which speakers were blown? All 6? Fronts, doors or rears? What did you end up replacing the factory speakers with and what size? I am thinking of upgrading the speaker anyways.

yeh ive also been told that if you run a aftermarket headunit with high powr inputs going into the stock amp, you'll end up ruining the speakers in the long run. something about mismatched impedances. in other words, the amp magnifies an already otherwise high power output, and the stock speakers have a lower resistance (impedance), resulting in an eventual blowout. just put in an alpine in my car and they sound much much better, but am ready to accept the fact i'll eventually need to replace the speakers.

ccorley, so did you end up using the factory amp in combination with your headunit or not? if so how did you overcome the fact that the RCA outs of new head units are too high voltage for the factory amp?

but after you change the stock speakers to some aftermarket ones, will the speakers still eventually blow out again because of the mismatched impedances?

i ahve a 1995 and i just replaced all the speakers (6). I used two sets of components, one set for the rears, and one set for the front (tweeters went into the dash speaker locations). I managed to use all existing speaker wires, and bypass the factory amp. you just have to get a little creative.... at the most, you might have to run one pair of wires to the back for the rear speakers, which takes about 15-20 minutes max.
i have the colors for the wires if you need them (6 speakers); they were a little different from what people were telling me on the site.

I had this unit installed in Bigblue without havin to diconnect the amps! Maybe I just got lucky. I did replace the 2 front door speakers as they were pretty well trashed! I had a local shop do the install and they did have to use a hot lead from the radio to power the amps or the radio was dead silent! But it works and I be one happy camper!!
