HID Conversion

Has anyone done it to their w124?
I was looking at doing it and looked at some conversion kits
This caught my eye as the best quality kit I could find, with phillips ballasts and bulbs HID Kit
Does anyone know what is involved in making the conversion, it says that it plugs right into the factory harness but i'm assuming in this case that isn't possible to do. I'm guessing you need to rewire the entire harness, anyone know?

hey

some kits have all the wiring u need
u just have to follow the very easy instruction
but be aware that if u buy a mono beam kit, u will loose the high beam, u can find one the market a kit with dual beam,... ask if they have spare bubls, so u don't have to change the kit if case one of ur bulbs burn out,...

Yeah I have also been wondering about bi xenons.. whether or not it is worth the money etc.
is installing them simple splicing the wires from the old harness to the new harness?

Well I just went out and tried to get some photos, but I haven't figured out my new digi camera, i'll try again later or try to get the photos I have off of my phone. This said, HID's are the best investment you can make next to Euros for your w124. I am nervous driving in cars without them now because the difference is so drastic! I am not kidding, the light that these put out illuminate everything so much better, and not in a glaring bright sense, but a more full spectrum sense. The bixeons i have only have one bulb that doesn't change it's draw of 35w, but what they do is they each have electromagnetic solenoids built into the bulb unit so when I hit high beam, it moves the reflector/shield so that the light output is moved up, i get a tiny bit less light down low, but if that is an issue, i just hit the fogs and keep rockin down the road with a sense of security and safety that all drivers should have since I can see in the ditches 5 times better, i can see farther, and all reflective surfaces like road paint and signs light-up much better and farther than with conventional halogens. HANDS DOWN, GET THEM! Night driving takes on a whole other level. I use less power than regular low beam halogens too, i don't have to worry about stressing my alternator like with the higher watt halogens that produce a ton of heat. It will be like a second honeymoon with your car believe me.

BTW, I have quite a bit of mechnical experience, probably not as much as some people here, but more than most(not bragging) and with this in mind I would say this is a very easy install. The bulbs I had fit into the H4 setup and have a slick plug and play wiring harness that plug into the factory bulb threepronged plug. You will need to cut a hole in each back plate of your headlight assembly for some wires that need to run in there that you then plug into the ignitors that you have to run power to and also a ground. It is so easy, don't let that keep you from buying them. $400 for headlights, yeah it may seem expensive for light, but boy oh boy, nothing beats them... you won't be sorry.

Which Hid package did you buy? looks interesting. Did you do this yourself? I'm still dying to see those pictures. I am weary of upgrading/modding my car because that could be money that could be going to a newer car.

hmm, tough call, I feel a solid w124 is always worth putting some money into, I love them, you better stick with us man. I do all of my own work on my mercedes and all the mercedes in my family which is a mixed blessing. if you understand positive and ground and can do basic wiring, you can do this. But make sure you have extra wire and wire connectors handy(simple auto electrical tool kit will suffice). The great thing about these HID's I have is that I salvaged them from my 400E that I flipped a while back, and they still work great! So if you plan on getting another w124 with H4's you can just swap them over, and you can simply plug your old lights in your car if you want to sell it. There is no altering or damage to your factory wiring!
I bought mine off e-bay a little over a year ago now +-. I got them from proxenon.com I think I paid right around $400 shipped. Just plan a saturday to do it and you will be so happy. But only do it if you have Euros, it would be an autrocity to do it with US spec spawn of Lucifer headlights.
