1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E (W124-036), 2004 W211 E55
A quote from their web site for my car.....
"Your Mercedes-Benz 500E 5.0 V8 utilizes a plug-in plug-out chip (EPROM). Fitting is simple and the Powerchip can be installed in about 30 minutes with basic skills and equipment. To install the upgrade software, simply locate the computer and un-plug the standard chip. Place the Powerchip performance chip into the socket and insert fully. Then, close the computer, re-install into the vehicle and start the engine to fully complete the installation process.
In standard form, the 500E 5.0 V8 produces 322 hp and 354 lb.-ft.
Powerchip has a range of chips to suit your car, which can increase it's power to 325 hp, and it's torque to 357 lb.-ft.
The price of the Powerchips for your car is USD $390.00."
Three HP and 3 ftlb's of torque for $390?? What a joke.

dont forget our cars are from an era when the engineers ruled at mercedes, and thus the cars came out of the box well cooked.
you really cant do too much to 124s without getting stupid. which is why MAG and lorinser and carlsson and the other tuners had such expensive cars.
other thing is mercs were more tuned for torque than outright power and dont/ didnt "respond" so well to being hopped up.

1st gear start is not a chip, rather its either a modified trans valve body or a electronic module that interfaces with the speed sensor and kickdown switch to achieve 1st gear start. The electronic modules are no longer available, but companies such as Renntech still provide the modified valve body service.

A joke? the joke is that your driving a 500E
if you want more than 3hp then perhaps upgrade vehicles and start again.

It is hardly a performance car to begin... the discussion started on how much the software will give.
IMO for a heavy car, ANY power gain would be worth it.
Then again, I wouldnt consider $390 a major investment. But that is probably because I am not 'still' in a 500E in 2006...Maybe in 1996 I would?
I am sorry if I offended anyone, but the gains for the software would be worth it at this low price AS LONG AS THEY ACTUALLY MAKE THE CLAIMED POWER - this is a whole new question
I think that evosport has some good software (well at least for the C32) but it is more expensive for that one ($1200 or something)
PS. there is a Black Black 500E for sale close by me for $8500 if anyone is interested PM me

Don't apologize if you're going to continue to make backhanded comments. First you call the car a joke, then you go on to insinuate that 500E owners still drive their cars because they cannot afford a newer car. For one thing, that's not necessarily the case. And even if it were, I don't appreciate your elitist attitude. Why are you even trolling this part of the forum, other than to make crass assumptions about people you don't know?

Gary, how come you dont mention you own a 500e in the C5t registry? Do you really not care much for it?
EDIT: Nice car

If there's a chip that will boost a 300CE by 15hp with no other changes (proven via dyno or dragstrip runs), I'll eat my hat.

I was looking into the Ebay chip as well, any more info you can post about it? The seller has squat for information, no dyno runs etc, he can't even tell me if it enables WOT enrichment of it is moves the power band to "simulate" a increase in power.

My guess is that the power gains (if any) are either at part throttle, or low enough in the RPM range that the gains don't affect a dragstrip run very much. I did a number of runs the same day with both chips, and repeated that a different day, same results both times.
Definitely no smoking gun here with easy power gains. You'll get more by opening up the intake, exhaust, and reducing weight.

Hmm, sounds like the money would be better spent on the 92 LH module, one of these days one will pop up for the right price, $500 for 7 hp at WOT is worse than the performance gains from these chips
