1988 W124 300TE
Question 300TE Air condition

Hi. My A/C system looses pressure. The shop has performed a press. test and refilled it twice without finding any leak.
After 3 days the pressure is low and the system can't start.
Any ideas to why the shop can't find the leak or has anybody had similar problems. Are there any components in the system that are not tested when the engine is not running during the decay test?

300 E's are well known for having leaks in the evaporator coil. Don't know if that's your problem but if it is it's very expensive.

the shop has to add so called tracer liquids to the replacement coolant (or rather test with Nitrogen) in order to locate the leaks using a UV lamp. You need to run the AC for some time (2-3 days)However I expect this to become a pretty expensive project since in Europe you also have to replace the coolant from R12 to something free of FCCH (free of carbon hydrogens). My wild guess is arround $ 1.000.-
