Intake?

Does anyone have this or something similar? Recommendations? Concerns on a 225,000 mileage car?

I had the same system (Wade Performance Stage 2) on my 190E 2.6. It's about the only aftermarket product available that truly connects right up. The quality is good and the price is reasonable. The downsides are that it isn't CARB certified (won't pass smog in CA) and for the most part it just sucks in hot air from the engine compartment. For my 2.6 I actually found a better solution which was to use the air box from a 260E which is about an inch taller than the stock unit I had. This box with a K&N was a noticable improvement. Not sure if there are similar options for your car, but if you're expecting a performance improvement this intake isn't it.

You're better off w/ a K&N filter. Plus the engine bay looks better w/ the oval air box IMHO.

My friend has one on his 190E and he modded the filter so it goes into the plastic air duct that we have on our cars that leads to the air box. It looks nice but I'm content with the K&N I have now.

That air filter is soo easy to make...you just need to find the right cars that they took those parts from....hint is vw/honda lol......im working on another airbox to bring cold air from the front of the engine straight into the intake...

This is my other prototype...lol...

youll be hard pressed to improve on the mercedes engineers on anything in a 124. thats not to say that it cant be done, it can. but at a price.

some mods look better, but cause the ride to suffer. others may make more power, but low down torque will suffer, or sound, or something else.

as far as im concerned teh only real improvements to the 124s are the problem areas; head gaskets, ac evaporators and so on. everything elseis just right.

Most intakes on most cars are just cosmetic you will not get anymore difference unless you have a high flow air cleaner but it will let in more dirt and stuff like that.....Most of the gains will be lost and will not show improvement to rear wheel horse power...

Has anyone ever thought about putting a oil cooler on our cars?

I don't think you need an oil cooler for these engines but a tranny cooler would help and i think some w124s did come with them....

I believe the oil/tranny cooler is built into the radiator as far as I know. but I am not sure.

The tranny cooler is but since it's inside the radiator it dosen't help much...I mean a separate oil cooler for the tranny...I have one on my mustang and it helps out a lot....makes the shifts more firm too...

Is the filter K&N? Is yours round or square? Where can i find a Square K&N? Kragen only offered a round one for my car and 3.2 ltr.

the car has an unusually large amount of oil. that helps to dissipate the ehat, and also means theres more oil to take the stresses, which results in the oil breaking down at longer periods.
youd only need an oil cooler if the temps were excessively hot, or the car was being used very hard. taxis usually have them (constant stop, start driving!) so i suppose youd find one if you bought a taxi or police option 124.

Yeah, I have a K&N Filter and the filter is round. You don't need the square filter because you already have the correct filter you need...

I guess I'm wrong - I didn't know the 300E 2.8 had the M104 engine. For some reason, I kept thinking you had the 2.6 and not the 2.8. Since the 1993 300E 2.8 is rather rare - or so they say...

In any case, you'll need this filter.

To clear things up for you this is the 1993 2.8l engine from a 300e. You need the square one that goes in the air box next to the exhaust manifold. Just tell them you want a air filter for a e320 or 300e 93 and up with the m104 engine.
