Before & After

I've had a couple of messages asking for before & after pictures to show the difference the modifications made to the car from stock.

The first photo shows the coupe just after I bought it last year - basically stock, except for the nasty chromies. The car you see in the background is my old Audi 200 quattro (best car ever for the MI snow - will rest now for the summer).

I still haven't found a good source for the elusive AMG gen II front bumper, but I might bring one back from England next week - that's if mercedes performance has one in stock.

Speaking of chromies...

I forgot to ask - does anyone know a good resource for chrome turn signal lamps? I've seen the ones for sale on ebay, but if anyone knows better...

Thanks StapleGun. I bought the grille through Motorwerks - www.motorwerksgroup.com - call them & ask for Bill. The grille wasn't cheap, but the quality & finish is excellent.

Cali - I wasn't even thinking about buying a blue coupe until I saw this one. Originally I was after a grey, black or silver one with black leather - but this one came up & I couldn't stop looking at it... The color is Azurite Blue - it looks best in the evening once the sun begins to set - the paint is slightly pearlescent, producing a very monochromatic effect. Plus you don't see this color on a coupe very often.

Be very careful with the Strosek kits - a good friend of mine spent 3 times what he had planned on just getting the kit to fit properly - plus he had to fabricate headlight mounts because the kits aren't moulded with any provision for this.

Thanks for the warning, I've heard similiar feedback on the Strosek kits. But
that front end and headlights got me sold....There's a couple of shops here in So Cali that specialize in Porsche modding and fabrication so I'll have some professional help if I need it..

There's a guy on Ebay selling replica AMG 2 front ends that look pretty well made. If all else fails you can try that.

Is your rear window glass and front door glass separated by any pilar or plastic/rubber seal? Just curious.

There is a thin pilar that retracts along with the rear windows. When all windows are down it feels much like a convertible (until you look up anyway...).

The only ones that I've seen on ebay (white 300e picture) are Gen I. If there is someone selling Gen II - I'd definitely take a look.

I might bring a new OEM one back from London with me in a couple of weeks - I'm just waiting to hear back from mercedes performance over there to see if they can get one in time... Hopefully it will fit in the overhead bins on the plane....

Man,

I've been looking all over Ebay for that seller and I can't find him, unless somebody did Buy It Now so the aution ended early. More then likely he'll put another one up for sale soon. If I see it again I'll pM you guys.. Sorry about that.. If you can find one from Performance , go ahead and pick it up since the OG ones are rare to come by. Your coupe would look great with that front end.

That's the one Shadow !!!!!!!...Thanks for finding that, seems to be a AMG 1 though, I thought it was a 2. Still looks sweet if you color code the black plastic strip.

I just spoke to mercedes performance in the UK - they can't get it either...

Thanks for the ebay link Shadow - but I'm going to keep looking for a Gen II. I know I just wouldn't be happy.

This is turning out to be more of a quest than I'd anticipated.
