Any Suggestions...?

Where would the most reliable yet inexpensive place to diagnose a 'Check Engine' light? Mine is on and i dont want to spend too much for a diagnostic test. Thanks

You can take it to pep boys or autozone and have them pull the codes out for you...It might be related to emissions or your O2 sensor, dunno..

the computer in your car is triggering the "check engine" light because it is detecting that something isn't right. When this happens, the computer in your car uses a coding system to tell you what's wrong. But you have to have the correct device to connect to the computer in order to determine what the code is. Then, you go to an MB shop manual and determine what the code means.

That's how the mechanics narrow down the specific cause. It's hardly a fool-proof system though. Again, all it does is narrow things down for them.

There's a black box next to the battery, underneath its cover is the button that they have to press down in order for the codes to come up, in LED light form. From there, the tech can determine exactly what type of problem you have...NorCal124 is right, the job is an hour's worth.

Is there a way of checking this out myself? If so, how do I check it?

secret decoder ring

The only way to get the code "out" of the car is to hookup a device that reads the code, kind of a secret decoder ring but more expensive. Most mechanics have them. I'd personally only trust the coding and repairs to a shop that "regularly" repairs mercedes.
