E320 with which tyres ??

Hello hoomiesĦĦĦ
I am preparing a tyre change in my E320 and i would like to count with your opinion.
This car uses originally a 205, and i would like to maintain or increase it to a 215-225. Is this possible? what should i do?

Also I would like to know which model of tyre you would put?? im between Michelin,Bridgestone and Pirelli, which one would you get?
Is only for summer and wet conditions, no snow or strange conditions ok? I like comfort and grip, dont care of the duration of the tyre.

Thanks boys and remember W124 the best-quality ever built carĦĦ no doubtĦ xD

follow the manufactures specs

I am a traditionalist. I believe in using replacement tires that are as close to the OEM specifications as possible. Many European manufacturers design their suspension around a particular tire. I remember a friend who put on a high priced and probably high quality tire from an independent dealer on his MB. The car simply did not feel right. He took a financial loss and traded to Michelin tire in the correct size but even more important the correct speed rating. The car simply smoothed out. No more "funny" feeling, he could never quite describe it, but it was gone. I think michelin pilots are correct replacement.

1990 300E 2.6
I recently placed Bridgestone Turanza LS-H tires on my 1990 300E. If you read the survey results at Tire Rack, it is probably the one most highly recommended tire and the price is better than Michelin. I am very pleased with the quiet, firm ride and excellent handling. Wet weather performance is excellent. This tire is one Mercedes has used on newer 320s as original equipment. My car came from the factory with German Goodyears. The Bridgestone is very much like that original tire in construction, handling and ride. If you wish to upgrade your wheels slightly, Tire Rack sells O.E.M. style 8-hole in 16" size. You would use a 205/55-16 tire size. This tire has a slightly lower profile and would tweak your handling just a bit without affecting suspension geometry.

speed rating

""I recently placed Bridgestone Turanza LS-H tires on my 1990 300E. ""

What is the speed rating?
I have Sportline option which came w/ different tires plus a 7.5 inch rim and then the PO put on 16's from a E430 and 205/55/60 tires to keep the same diameter. The tires are Continental Conti Touring Contact rated at 91H. I believe the rating should be a Z although maybe a W would work. That is a question for the tire guys. I don't like the tires, the car feels slightly "un-connected" with the road. Problem is that there is lots of tread left, they are nearly new. Still, I want to switch. Bridgestone or Michelin. hmmmm.

kwb210;
The "H" in "LS-H" refers to the speed rating. "H" tires are rated to 130 MPH. I don't know about you, but I have no intention of ever going that fast. I will rarely ever see 100, then only in the western states on the open road. Since Mercedes placed this speed rated tire on our cars, I believe we don't have anything to worry about. If I had a 500E, I would go for an entirely different tire. I guess you mean 205/55-16s are on your car now. If not, I don't know what you mean by 205/55/60 tires. They cannot have two different sidewall heights on the same tire. Tire selection is very subjective. What one person finds pleasing for handling, traction, etc., another may totally dislike. A friend of mine has the Continental tires you describe. He likes them and I find them wanting. They do not have as crisp a handling feel as the Bridgestones. The Bridgestone Turanza is not a sports car tire. It is a very good touring tire that has a smooth but firm ride, good wet weather, traction and good handling. I believe it complements the suspension design of the 300E.

I meant 205/55 R16

My previous post of tire size 205/55/60... they are that new really tall tire from...haha. I just got the 205/55 R16 in a Z rated tire. The speed rating has very little to do with the speed you will ever see. The tire rated to 130 mph is more related to the stiffness and flex of the tire. A lower speed rated tire has more flex and may feel mushy on some cars. Depends on what the manufacturer did with the suspension design. I just got rid of the H rate tires, and now with the Z rated tires the cars simply feels "correct". No feedback in the steering wheel. I literally flipped a coin between Michelin and Pirelli. Perelli won because of a slighly higher rating on wear, rain and a few other areas were the same as Michelin. I doubt if I could tell the difference.
I remember my 1979 300D, 77 hp, required a higher speed rated tire, when the car was not capable of reaching over 90 mph on a downhill run, a long downhill run. It was a combination of the suspension design and the weight of the car.
Buy the right tire, one reccomended by MB, and you'll continue to love driving the 124 series.

Pirelli P Zero Nero

I just got new tires, the Pirelli P Zero Nero. Here is a link from tire rack on the tire:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....del=PZero+Nero

I paid about $525 for 4 and that included the tire replacement guarantee, purchased from Discount Tire. They also gave me a separate trade-in allowance for the remaining tread on the Continentals. I have only bought the tire replacement guarantee once, many yrs ago, and I went in to check on a crack on one of the tires. The vehicle was a Toyota Land Crusier that was only driven in the winter. The tire guy pulled all four tires off and 3 had cracks, so they replaced 3 of them with brand new tires and I paid for only one. That was a great bit of luck. So I decided to go for it again. It's about $15 a tire.
As a separate point the tire guy reccomended storing the vehicle with 40 psi, that way he said you would or at least should avoid a flat spot on the tire. The car usually sat from April to mid November.
