94-95 hood and grill

I have an 87 300e. I want to use the 94-95 hood and grill on it when I get the car repainted.

Has anyone tried this tweak? Will it fit?

If so, I plan on ordering before the car goes to the body shop.

You have to get a piece that has the body molding surrounding it as well. It's not just a matter of screwing it in. You have to have a skilled body worker weld it in, mold in into the hood with bondo, sand, and prime. It's pretty expensive and if the body shop isn't used to doing this kind of custom work, they could really screw things up.

I looked into this for a while when I first got my car, and realized it wasn't anywhere close to worth it to me. It's worth it to others, though.

I would suggest just buying new headlights, hood, and grill from a '94 or '95 and have that painted. That will be the most pain-free way to do it.

EDIT: look at this benzworld member's gallery. You'll see what I'm talking about.

Luckily I have a buddy in the business so I can get a pretty good deal to do the repaint.

I wanted to replace the entire hood, grill and whatever else is needed at the time I get the repaint.

We plan on stripping the car down to the bare body. Trim, interior, etc.

If this 94-95 hood/grill will fit, I am doing it.

94/95 hood will fit but remember that you will need new headlights ( nice time to go with euro 500e headlights! ) new grill, might as well go s600/avantegarde... and I'm not too sure, but you may also need a hood star. Remember to post before and afters!

I may be wrong, but i think he wants to replace the whole hood and grill, right? He wants to put a '94-'95 hood and grill on his '87. I dont think the way you expained it in the first part of your reply is what he wants to do. Your suggestion is right and I am also planning on doing the same; replace my hood and grill w/a '94-'95 hood and grill. I made a thread a while back and I believe it is an easy swap...

Yes, that is correct. I want to purchase and install a hood and grill from a 94-95 E320 and install it on the 87 300E I have before it goes to the paint shop.

So far it looks like I have two votes for:

yes it is an easy swap and 1 maybe it will work.

I've done the 95 update. It's pretty easy, you have two ways you can go get a 95 hood or a 95 hood conversion kit. I went with the kit to keep my OEm hood. It's pretty hard to find a 94-95 hood in good condition.

You'll need 94 -95 headlights, grill frame and insert, get a S600 grill. To fully finish the exterior update you'll also need the updated side panels, 94-95 trunk or rear filler piece.

What updated side panels? The ones that go along the bottom exterior of the car, like my gray ones but updated?

You already have the updated side panels, 86 - 89 I believe didn't have the wide side panels they had the thin rubber door moldings only.

You're looking at easily over 1G that's for parts & paint and you have to .Of course you can always get it done cheaper depending on the quality of the parts.

Euro lights - 150 /199 (cheap projectors 250 , (TYC, Depot ) - 499 for OG 500 Hellas

94 - 95 hood - 250 and up depending if it's aftermarket or OG used.

94 - 95 hood update piece - $299 / also $250 and up for bodywork

94 - 95 grill insert and surround - 100 -200

paint match - $250 up

If you're willing to wait a little I'll have Carbon Fiber for order, probably around July '06.
