Unhappy transmission

My transmission isnt downshifting when going up hills .. I can drop it in manual ..All the vacuum lines are in..The tranny fluid is full. He did put in this product called lucas said it might help However he My mechanic said it was probably time to see a tranny specialist..Anyone have thoughts? 1989 300E 202,000 miles

Doesn’t seem too bad if you can shift down with the gear selector. Sounds like a problem with your vacuum modulator. Have you had the vacuums’ pressure checked? Also what happens when you floor the pedal driving up hill or on a flat road?

ok

No I have not have vacuum check and it feels old when I try and floor the car either on straight away or up a hill..
Dealer time for vacuum check???

Not sure what you mean when you say it feels old, but yes go get the vacuum line's pressure checked and see if that's the problem.

runs like

The car itself although quite well maintained feels old..No real peppyness as it is climbing to speed ..once there it is fine but it wont come off the line other then chug chug mode..

If its going "chug chug" off the line and there is no real power the cylinders aren’t firing efficiently, that could be due too a large number of things, however if it's been looked after it may only need a tune-up, replace the spark plugs and the fuel and air filters to start with. Was the car "old" before you had the transmission problems, or did they happen at the same time?

New fuel and air filter,,,,New wires on when I got the car..

What do you suggust as far as plugs? points? cap Rotor?
Source? whats the gap on the plugs?
Performanceproducts seem to have these bosch plugs ... any thoughts?
